Technology and communication

what effect does new technology have on human relations and the way we interact?

The invention of smart phones, skype calls, social media sights etc etc allows us to stay in contact any time anywhere with the people we love- so surely technology enhances our relationships? Communication now knows no bounds!

On the other hand do these devices and mediums act as a physical barrier between us and our friends and family? Are we replacing natural, emotional human contact with lifeless digital communication. Are less people talking face to face, hugging, using body language and natural expression and more people ‘snap-chatting’, ‘whats-apping’, ‘face timing’, ‘instagramming’ and ‘tweeting’?

What is the effect of advancing technology on the way that our world is connected and the way we interact with all the people in it. Will all humans eventually lose all social skills and emotional capabilities? Will body language, tone of voice and facial expression be a thing of the past or do new technologies enrich our relationships by braking down the barriers of connection?
